The largest single group has usually chartered in the region before buying in it: Rhodes and Kos are among the most established charter bases in the eastern Mediterranean, and a couple who spent a fortnight sailing between Symi and Kos on someone else&#039;s boat are exactly the buyers who come back two or three years later looking to own one themselves. They know the islands, they know the distances, and they buy with confidence because the geography is already familiar.<\/p><p>A second group comes from Turkey&#039;s southern coast, a short hop across open water from Kos, Symi and Rhodes. Marmaris and Bodrum sit within sight of Greek waters, and buyers based on that coast who prefer the Dodecanese as a cruising ground are a regular part of the market, particularly for boats already lying in Rhodes or Kos.<\/p><p>The third group is domestic: Greek buyers, many from Athens or Rhodes itself, buying a second boat or moving up from a smaller one, who value a harbour they already know well over one they would have to learn.<\/p><p>The fourth is the ex-charter trade. It rarely closes harbours here the way it can further north, but it does concentrate serious viewing activity into the shoulder months either side of high summer, when wind and heat are both easier to manage for a buyer flying in for a single day.<\/p><p>A boat listed in June, in the middle of the meltemi and the charter season&#039;s own peak, is competing for attention with a hundred other things happening in the harbour at once.
